Large kernels, a high hectolitre weight and excellent overall quality characterise this year’s Finnish oat crop.
The Finnish oat harvest is progressing well, with the first results indicating an excellent crop in terms of both quality and yield.
The 2026 growing season provided favourable conditions for oats. Sunshine and rainfall were received in a well-balanced combination, supporting crop development throughout the summer. Yields per hectare are higher than usual, and the total oat harvest is expected to remain close to last year’s level despite a slight decrease in the cultivation area compared with 2025.
Oat harvesting began in mid-August and has continued in good conditions. Most oat fields in southwestern Finland have already been harvested, and deliveries to Raisio’s mill in Nokia started immediately after harvesting began.
Raisio’s contract farmers have also submitted advance samples of oats, including organic oats, to the grain laboratory for analysis. The results received so far show that this year’s crop is of exceptionally high quality.
The new oats have an attractive light colour and exceptionally large kernels. Their average hectolitre weight is above 58 kg/hl—higher than last year and clearly above the five-year average.
Mycotoxin levels have remained very low, and the oats comply with the maximum limits established by the EU.
The combination of a good harvest level and excellent grain quality provides Raisio with a strong foundation for producing high-quality oat ingredients and meeting customer needs throughout the coming winter.
