The 2025 growing season was favorable for oats

In Finland, the growing season began early in April, but spring cereals were mostly sown in early May. May and June brought unusually heavy rainfall to Southwest Finland, the region where most of our oats are grown. In July, weather conditions shifted rapidly from cool to warm, with the heat continuing into August. This was followed by a more variable period with frequent showers. The harvest season began in early August and lasted until the end of September. Despite the refreshing rains slightly slowing down the process, harvesting progressed well.

Oats thrived

Both the quality and yield of oats turned out excellent. The total oat harvest reached 1.21 million tons—slightly more than last year. The average hectoliter weight, which indicates grain size, was nearly 58 kg/hl—an exceptionally high figure even by Finnish standards. Organic oats also showed improved grain size, with a hectoliter weight of 58 kg/hl.

Organic oat cultivation expanded significantly

During the 2024/2025 season, the availability of organic oats in Finland was below average. However, in summer 2025, the area dedicated to organic oat cultivation grew significantly, reaching a record high. The growing season was also relatively favorable for organic oats. This combination of expanded cultivation and favorable conditions ensures improved availability of organic oats for the upcoming winter. Just like conventional oats, organic oats are beautifully light in color and large-grained.
